Orchard Pottery is a small studio pottery – the partnership of Doreen Gardner and Tony Smither which has been in business since 1980. The workshop is situated in a small village in West Devon, with beautiful views of a Dartmoor tor at the head of the valley and specialises in the design and manufacture of sculptural birds and beasts for the home and garden.
Using a variety of techniques including coiling, press moulding, slip casting, throwing, extruding and slab building each piece is made of stoneware – a clay that has been fired to a high temperature so that the molecules fuse together or vitrify making the pottery non porous. Stoneware is frost proof making each piece safe for use in the garden all year round.
