Julia was born in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire in 1969 and studied illustration and printmaking at Cambridge. Her work reflects two very different sources of inspiration: urban crowds and rural wildlife studies.

Julia is fascinated by the shadows cast by human figures when viewed aerially and the mesmerising effect they have when freeze framed. She  is equally inspired by the rural woodland setting onto which her garden studio looks out and it’s abundance of animal life and uninterrupted countryside views.

Her compositions start by painting a brightly coloured acrylic abstract background onto white canvas, elements of which are left to show through the overpainting to varying degrees and the patterns made by bodies moving in a crowd or the long grass gently swaying in the breeze have an artistic quality all of their own.
